Lung collapse
In the chest x-ray the area of collapse of the lung is seen as a homogeneous dense opacity ,A lateral film may help to locate the lobes affected by the collapse .
Note the area not occupied by lung tissue has an abnormal increase in opacity in comparison with the other normal lung .
(Q) What are the causes of collapse of the lung ?
(A) (1) Obstruction of a major bronchus by foreign body , mucus or pus, malignancy or enlarged lymph nodes .(2) Compression of the lung by pleural effusion or pneumothora
