1. Ten persons have been confirmed dead, including four policemen, after suspected robbers attacked a commercial bank in Kwara State town of Offa on Thursday.
The heavily-armed bandits, who gained access to the town from Ijagbo in the western end, also carted away substantial amount of money from the banks’ vaults after blowing open the security of the banks with dynamite.
2. A village head and five others were on Thursday killed after suspected bandits invaded Sarari village, near Kuriga town in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Report says the incident, which occurred around 2 p.m., left ‎about eight people seriously injured.
3. The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has reinstated Ali Janga as the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State for meeting the one-week ultimatum given to him to re-arrest the suspects who escaped from police custody.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO ASP William Aya, told newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday that Janga returned to office on April 3 on the order of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
4. An Italian identified as Peter Nielson, has been arrested for reportedly killing his Nigerian wife, Zainab Ali-Nielsen, popularly known as Alizee, and her four-year- old daughter, Petra.
Alizee, an artiste, and her daughter, were allegedly murdered in the family’s residence at Ocean Parade, Banana Island in the early hours of Thursday.
5. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it recovered N130 million as part of the illegal funds expended during the 2015 general election in Gombe state, while it also equally secured nine convictions in the state within the same time-frame.
According to Johnson Babalola, Head of Operations at the Gombe Zonal Office of the EFCC, several others cases were ongoing at the courts, including that of an unnamed official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from Taraba State.
6. A former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
Following his defection, some people loyal to the former National Assembly member set the flags of the PDP on fire.
7. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has debunked the news of plastic fish in circulation in Nigeria.
The Agency’s spokesman, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, said that its finding followed “a thorough investigation and analysis of some unsuspected plastic fish samples’’ in its laboratory.
8. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, has approved special promotion for 3,729 troops, who participated in Operation DEEP PUNCH II in the Sambisa Forest.
A breakdown of the beneficiaries showed 223 Staff Sergeants promoted to the rank of Warrant Officers, 511 Sergeants promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeants while 994 Corporals were promoted to the rank of Sergeants and others.
9. Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West in the Senate, has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court, seeking an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from proceeding with his recall from the Senate.
In a notice of appeal filed by his Counsel, Mike Ozekome, (SAN), Melaye wants an order of perpetual injunction restraining the INEC from commencing or further continuing with his recall or acting on the purported petition.
10. President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, in Abuja explained why he refused to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) among ECOWAS countries.
He said this was because of the need to protect the economy, especially the industries and small businesses that currently provide jobs for majority of Nigerians.
